At 5 pm at Aarohan- Gurukul, Hatkhola, Biratnagar now there is a play "Lakhan Patwari" being staged Written for the stage and Directed by Prabin Khatiwada. Khatiwada is a theatre activist and actor. Likewise the play is produced by Aarohan Gurukul, Biratnagar.
The play is adopted from an old folk tale. The play will be staged till the first week of August. The play is about Yamraj, the god of death and his wish to meet a living person. It seems he is tired of meeting only dead persons in his kingdom. He sends his sidekicks to planet earth to capture a living person and take him back to his kingdom of heaven and hell. Lakhan Patwari, an average politician from Nepal of planet earth is taken to yamraj. He was captured after hapless efforts to capture many other living humans. The play becomes interesting when Lakhan with his wits create troublesin the kingdom of gods. Lakhan Patwari is played by Ram Bhajan Kamat, who plays the character with confidence and zeal. Ashok Gautam plays Bishnu, Chitragupta Rajesh Thakur plays Shiva and Munda. Bharat Karki plays Sunda and Bramha and he creates a laugh riot. Audiences enjoy him very much. Yamaraj, Villager,Prachanda is played by Bikash Parajuli.Villager, Chatte of Yamaraj is played by Rabin Chimariya with honesty.
Theatre and Arts scene is not so great in other parts of the country except the capital, Kathmandu. It has been a cliché to repeat the saying but it is as it is. But, if plays are staged in regular interval and a little effort is contributed by every arts lover Biratnagar can be another Arts hub connecting artists from India and Capital.
